From sandy beaches to dense forests to towering mountains to arid deserts, the United States has a lot of diverse and beautiful outdoors to discover.
President Obama has declared that June is Great Outdoors Month and this month is a fantastic opportunity to explore the fresh air and the natural beauty that can be found in your own backyard.
There is so much to see and do just outside your door and as the summer sun starts to warm the air you can spend many fun days in the great outdoors.
Here are some ideas of how you and your family can celebrate great outdoors month:
Go Camping
What could be more relaxing than sitting out under the stars around a roaring campfire, playing guitars and singing your favorite songs?
Camping is a wonderful way to appreciate nature as you spend your days hiking through the forest and your evenings listening to the swaying of trees in the wind as you fall asleep in your tent.
Be sure to respect your surroundings and leave the campsite spotless when you leave so that the next person can enjoy it.
Take a Hike
Whether you are interested in a laid back stroll around a lake or a challenging climb up a mountain slope, there are so many different hiking and walking trails throughout the country to choose from.
Don’t forget to wear sturdy and comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water with you.
On June 21st, over 100 national parks throughout the country will offer free admission, so this is a perfect opportunity to hike through some of America’s most beautiful scenery for free!
Give Back to the Environment
The environment gives a lot to you, including fresh air, food and a place to live and play. When is the last time you gave something back?
During the month of June you can take the time to plant a tree, pick up garbage in a park, or set up a bird feeder in your yard.
Great Outdoors month is the time to enjoy the beautiful natural areas of this country and to appreciate the importance of preserving these lands for future generations.
Put on your hiking boots, slap on some sunscreen, bring the camera and have a wonderful time exploring the great outdoors!
